Ruth’s Chris is renowned for its delicious steaks, served sizzling on a hot plate. But what most people don’t know is that the restaurant plays a significant role in giving back to those who make dining out possible.
From matching donations to local partnerships and creative fundraisers, Ruth’s Chris has always been an active leader in finding ways to support the community. This September, the restaurant is combining efforts with Giving Kitchen for its latest fundraiser, Dining with Gratitude. It’s an easy way to support food service staff by simply ordering their featured cocktail.

Old Fashioned with a New Purpose
Food service workers at restaurants like Ruth’s Chris make many of our most memorable nights out possible. The team here at Ruth’s Chris wants to recognize their hard work and be part of their support system, especially when staff members find themselves in crisis. This September, order our signature cocktail, Old Fashioned with a New Purpose, and we will donate $1 from each drink to Giving Kitchen.
Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail, loved by whiskey connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Ruth’s Chris is giving this classic drink a twist, though. Old Fashioned with a New Purpose is a perfectly balanced blend of 1792 small batch bourbon, simple syrup, Angostura bitters, orange twist and filthy amarena cherry.
About Giving Kitchen
Giving Kitchen is a nonprofit that steps in when restaurant workers hit a rough patch. Illness, injury, accidents, catastrophic acts of god and sudden loss in the family are only a handful of examples of the types of situations where food service paychecks can get wiped out.
The Giving Kitchen offers financial assistance to qualified foodservice workers, primarily for paying bills such as rent and utilities.
However, Giving Kitchen doesn’t stop at financial assistance; the organization also connects workers with a “Stability Network.” This network connects food service professionals to essential support resources, including mental health services, housing assistance and job search support.
The organization started in Atlanta in 2013 after beloved chef Ryan Hidi was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Since then, Giving Kitchen has grown nationwide, helping tens of thousands of food service workers and distributing millions in aid. Along the way, they’ve earned national recognition, including the 2019 James Beard Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year award.
Dine with Purpose, Dine with Gratitude
Every September, Giving Kitchen invites restaurants, bars and suppliers across the country to join their Dining with Gratitude campaign. It’s a simple idea that turns an everyday meal or drink into a way to support food service workers who are enduring a tough time.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House is proud to be one of the top restaurants to join in. This year, the restaurant is featuring the Old Fashioned with a New Purpose cocktail. If you enjoy a sip of bourbon with an orange twist, be sure to savor our signature blend, and we’ll donate one dollar for each drink to Giving Kitchen.
